This year I’m experimenting with Wordpress as a CMS. I’m really impressed at how it can look like a regular website with a little tweaking. I’m not a geek, but good old cut ‘n paste never fails to let me down

What I like about Wordpress is how many free customizations are available as themes and plugins. What I don't like is how some of the defaults are set up. Wendy, that’s great! The adding content while still designing is a major benefit I hadn’t realized, but it’s absolutely true. And ongoing design changes are possible without taking the whole site down . . . pretty cool. Thanks for commenting!

I'm a recent convert to Wordpress as a CMS. I never dreamed it could be this easy. And the best part is that I can get my clients or my crew adding content before I even start with the design, so by the time I've nailed all the little bits down, the whole site is pretty much complete. Hi Zack,

Wordpress definitely makes things easier for a blogger to start out. It’s a platform that specializes in blogging and it’s a huge step up from a cookie-cutter service like Blogger.

However, recent developments in the Joomla community (over the last couple of months-weeks) have persuaded me to go with a Joomla mojoBlog. MojoBlog is a streamlined component that integrates Wordpress functionality into the Joomla CMS. This setup allows the use plugins from Wordpress while still using Joomla components, modules, and mambots (plus the custom mojo stuff). It’s the best of both worlds. The learning curve is high at the moment, with all the tweaks and customizations I’ve added.

Before mojo was up to speed, Joomla blogs were buggy and thought to be a simple side-feature for a site, certainly not as a standalone blog.

Now it’s possible for a Joomla mojoBlog to stand alone as a pure-blogging site and even out compete Wordpress blogs, by using all the latest Wordpress features and plugins while capitalizing upon the advantages Joomla offers (communities, components, forums, stores, and so on).

Wordpress users tend to rely on 3rd-party widgets to mimic features like this and they never work well. 3rd-party widgets often look cheap, cause lag, or demand commission on your sales.

I’m pretty active in the mojo forums and one of the most involved in testing/reporting the latest developments. I believe that my mojoBlog is the current leading pure-blogging Joomla mojoBlog out there.

Now I just need someone to design an eye-catching template. A graphic designer is making a new site logo for me and it will be in next week. I’m colorblind and sometimes have to ask people about color issues.
